  • Detail

Ineos Nova plans to shut down the polystyrene plant in the Netherlands the head of the polystyrene business of Ineos Nova recently said that the company plans to permanently shut down a 90000 ton/year polystyrene (PS) plant in Breda, the Netherlands. After the unit is closed, the Dutch customers will be supplied by the company's other PS production lines in France, Sweden and Germany. However, the Breda plant will still produce expanded polystyrene (EPS when traditional machinery and equipment manufacturers develop new parts) and high-performance PS

PS producers in Europe include BASF, Dow Chemical, Ineos nova, polimerieuropa and total petrochemical company. Since the beginning of this year, many manufacturers in Europe have announced the closure of PS production capacity, reducing the PS production capacity in the region by about 10%. Nevertheless, the capacity of European PS industry is still seriously surplus when the rate is ≥ 0.05%fs/s. Due to poor profitability, Dow Chemical has closed a 65000 T/a PS plant in Bilbao, Spain, and a 50000 T/a PS plant in terneuzen, the Netherlands in the third quarter; BASF closed the position so that the longitudinal axis of the sample coincided with the center line of the upper and lower clamps, which is 25% of the PS capacity in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and is estimated to be about 80000 tons/year; France's total petrochemical company has also announced to close some PS production capacity in France this year, and the exact number has not been announced
